DEAR SPROUTMAN: My Automatic Sprouter seems to be watering A LOT! I don’t want my electric bill to go way up. How much electricity does it use? Thanks! – Carol
DEAR CAROL: Sproutman’s Freshlife Automatic Sprouter operates on a small 8 watt fish tank motor. But it uses an average of 5 watts per hour because its rest time (off) is approximately 20-30 minutes per hour. This is equivalent to a night light. So, electricity consumption is not an issue with these machines. If you do the math, the average Freshlife sprouter uses the equivalent of a single 100 watt light in your house being on for a little more than one hour.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the Freshlife’s ran on solar energy? Unfortunately, that’s not a likelihood. But if you wish your Freshlife was not electric, that is possible right now. Just visit our Hand Watering Freshlife Sprouter page now.
Now that’s cheap to operate. How much is your sprouter?

I love my automatic sprouter, I’ve had it for over a year now, although I didn’t use it much for the first 8 months. The only thing its not good at (atleast for me) is wheatgrass, it always ends up molding for some reason & my husband is really mold sensative =( I will say though the radish, clover, alfalfa, and broccoli sprouts that come out of this thing are rawmazing!
I do have a question though – is the growing barrel dishwasher safe, and the blue parts as well? I recently purchased my dishwasher and would hate to ruin my sprouter!

The Sprouter is not dishwasher safe, and we do not recommend putting it in the dishwasher.
Thank you for the comment! I am happy you enjoy the Sprouter!

The automatic sprouter sounds great but I’m not sure about a few things. Do you hook it up to the fauset all day? or does it reuse the water you initially put in to get it started?

There is no faucet hook up for the sprouter, you fill the water barrel and that water will be recycled.
