To celebrate the launch of our NEW line of 9 varieties of Microgreen Seeds, let’s go over the ins and outs of microgreens.
What’s the Difference Between Sprouts & Microgreens?
Let’s take a little journey, shall we?
Imagine you’re holding a seed.
It is a little packet of infinite potential, waiting to be unlocked.
Soak your seed for a few hours and let the magic begin…
🌱 This Is a Sprout
When you see the tiniest little tail pop out, that’s when a seed becomes a sprout. This is the youngest stage of growth for a plant.
Because the seed is pre-packed with all the nutrients the plant needs to grow through the sprout stage, they don’t require any soil or sunlight. That’s why sprouts are easily grown in jars or hemp bags.
🌱 This Is a Microgreen
After 10 days or so, depending on the variety, that sprout has grown so much that it starts needing additional nourishment. It needs soil. It needs sunlight. It needs to stretch its roots a little.
That’s when it becomes a microgreen. Microgreens have developed leaves, need growing medium like soil, and are generally trimmed from their roots before they’re eaten. They’re more delicate and leafy than sprouts and can be grown for up to 3 weeks.

How to Grow Microgreens
BEFORE STARTING: Read the instructions on your seed pouch. Some seeds you’ll need to pre-soak your seeds for 6-12 hours, while other your should NOT pre-soak.
Instructions for Pre-Soak Seeds
Use for: Speckled Pea, Buckwheat, Brilliant Blend, Fava & Microgreen Salad Blend
1. Cover the bottom of your growing tray with a thin layer of seeds, cover with room temperature water, and soak for 6-12 hours. When done, drain at an angle to remove excess water without disturbing seed too much. Spread seeds along bottom evenly and loosely cover with a lid or plastic bag.
2. Rinse twice a day, either using a gentle flow in from your tap or spraying thoroughly with a mister. Drain thoroughly.
3. Your microgreens are ready to eat in 10-12 days! Refrigerate to keep fresh and trim above the roots to harvest & enjoy.
Instructions for No Soak Seeds
Use for: Broccoli, Spicy Microgreen Mix, Mellow Microgreen Mix & Purple Kohlrabi
1. Use an unglazed clay bottom or a tray lined with a Baby Blanket, unbleached paper towel/coffee filter, or soil. Sprinkle lightly with dry seeds, leaving space between the seeds.
2. Spray lightly with water until damp, but not too wet. Preserve moisture by loosely covering seeds (with plastic or cover). Spray lightly with water 2x daily, keeping the seeds damp (but not too wet). When established, your microgreens can be rinses under a slow-flowing tap.
3. Harvest by trimming above the roots in 7-10 days, depending on what variety you’re growing (consult your seed pouch).
